What it means to be a pioneer

Origin
The Pioneer Association was founded in 1898 by Father James Cullen, S.J., in the
Church of St. Francis Xavier, Gardiner Street, Dublin.
Aim
The primary aim of the Association is the promotion of sobriety and temperance. Its chief means are prayer and self-sacrifice.
Motives
Members are inspired by such motives as

       (a) To show their personal love for Christ,
       (b) To become independent of alcohol in order to do good,
       (c) To make reparation for the sins of self-indulgence, including our own sins,
       (d) To win, through prayer and self-sacrifice, grace and help for problem drinkers,

victims of substance abuse and for those who suffer as a consequence.
